ToughWash™ Metal Detectable Signs

Our flexible B-854 ToughWash™ sign material is metal detectable in addition to being highly durable in washdown cycles. It is developed with an integrated metal detectable element so common detectors will detect sign fragments during the QA or production process. Furthermore, this design will not delaminate and split into layers like other products, reducing the possibility of contamination. You can use this material with some of our most popular powerful and versatile printing systems to design and print your own custom signage on site.

Food Industry & Workplace Safety Compliance

Many food and beverage plants operate in accordance with the HACCP Certification criteria. Workplace Safety can also be incorporated into this systematic approach to identifying hazards and reducing risk exposure.

Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point (HACCP)

The HACCP approach considers risks presented by physical, chemical and biological hazards through preventative measures rather than post-inspection in food manufacturing and preparation environments.

HAZARD This involves identifying any risks in the process. Potential risks include: contamination exposure, bacteria or chemical and even foreign or loose objects.
ANALYSIS Involves determining the risk severity (high to low) and the likelihood of occurrences (most to least) in the food production process.
CRITICAL The exact moment in the process when risks are likely to occur or be identified.
CONTROL The preventative measures that can be applied to control the hazards.
POINT The point/s are the specific locations of the selected control and monitoring activities.

The HACCP approach can be applied to a number of areas across the food industry. Namely: manufacturing, handling and processing, packaging, storage and transport, cleaning and equipment maintenance.

Work Health and Safety Regulations

Elements of HACCP are aligned to the managing risk requirements under the Work Health and Safety Regulations . According to Safe Work Australia, in 2010-11 a frequency rate of 13.4* occupational injury and disease cases were recorded in the food, beverage and tobacco manufacturing industry. This rate is significantly more than corresponding higher risk work environments.

(* Cases expressed as a rate per million hours worked by employees.)

The impact of high injury rates include: productivity delays and interruptions, higher workers compensation and rehabilitation costs, ROI losses and reduced staff morale.

Simultaneous management of HACCP and Workplace Safety can also ensure the physical safety of workers and reduce risks at critical control points. To incorporate safety into your HACCP approach, use this guide as a reference.

An effective HACCP+S approach can deliver enormous benefits including: reduced injuries, food safety standard and productivity improvements, a culture focused on risk minimisation, heighted customer satisfaction and workplace and industry compliance.

The key to sustainable long-term safety program improvements is focusing on making small, regular changes that can be easily maintained and supported by workers.

Food Safety Standards Australia

Similar to workplace safety regulations, the Food Safety Standards were developed to provide more effective and nationally uniform food safety legislation for Australia. The standards cover food safety programs, practices, general requirements, premises and equipment. FSANZ have a range of fact sheets available to provide more details on the requirements for businesses in relation to the standards.
